Artist Statement
In a growing archive of found photographic material, images are arranged in constantly changing ways. From these odd combinations and decontextualized images Ruth van Beek makes here work. The objects that arise in her collages are diplayed as
archaeological recontstructions, puzzling valuables of an unknown time.
Born in Zaandam, the Netherlands, 14 oktober 1977
Lives and works in Koog aan de Zaan, The Netherlands.
Graduated in 2002 at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam following a Master in Photography. Had several solo exhibitions in places like Foam Amsterdam, Spaarnestad archive Haarlem, Okay Mountain, Austin Texas (V.S.) and participated in groupshows at Van Zoetendaal, Noorderlicht, LhGWR, gallery Koal Berlin, and the Use me Abuse me show in NewYork, curated by Erik Kessels.
In 2011 she published her first book “the Hibernators” at RVB books in Paris.
